Why normal waste routes will not work
Fibres released when sheets are crushed or tipped are the danger. Ordinary skip hire and bin collections are not allowed to take asbestos.
Household recycling centres
Some councils accept small amounts from householders with conditions, many do not. Check with Sandwell Council before you move anything, and do not break sheets to make them fit.
Using a contractor
The simplest route. A registered waste carrier takes the wrapped waste to a permitted site and issues paperwork. The cost of carriage and disposal should be itemised in the quote.
Paperwork to expect
Hazardous waste is accompanied by a consignment or transfer note. Keep it. It shows where the waste went and who took it.
Fly-tipping risk
Using an unregistered person to take it away can leave you responsible for fly-tipping. Ask for a waste carrier registration number and check it on the Environment Agency register.
